International Albinism Day 2020

Persons with albinism lack melanin, but melanin is not what gives a person their heritage, as heritage is a product of ancestry not melanin. Therefore, persons with albinism are the races & tribes of their parents, just like everyone else. Inspite of their similar skin tone, they do not all look alike, because they do not all come from the same bloodline. Just as people with darker skin do not all look like other people they share no relations with, simply because they share similar skin tones. Persons with albinism have the features of their individual ancestors, just like everyone else. If you put your prejudice aside, you’d notice that a particular person with albinism may have the shape of their father’s nose, and their grandmother’s cheeks… Do not separate persons with albinism from their heritage because of ignorance, for stigma is founded on exactly that-ignorance. They are not a race, tribe, or people of their own. They are part of our clans & our homes, because albinism is present in all living things & beings.

And on this International Albinism Awareness Day 2020, I am pleading with the world, to enlighten their minds, & see persons with albinism as individual beings with individual family backgrounds; that is where true healing begins.
